Why Koreans get so mad at the Japanese Rising sun flag?

by Boribori:3 2018. 10. 4.

The Japanese Rising Sun flag has been the controversial topic over years and years among Asian countries.

Why is that so?

Because this flag is a symbol of the Imperial japanese Army and Navy, like Nazi's Hakenkreuz flag.

Nazi's Hakenkreuz flag is a very famous one as a war-crime flag.

Guess everybody knows it, especially in the Western countries.

I'm not sure they know about this one as well, but Japanese Rising sun flag is the same.

Nazis and Imperial Japan, What they have in common is , (I'm sure we all know about it. )

Cruel Butcher, Massacre of innocent people brutally, during & before World war II.

But there is a big difference between them .

While Germany admited the guilt , apologized sincerely and strongly banned the use of the Nazi symbols so-called Hakenkreus by criminal law(along with other countries such as Austria, France, Poland etc),

the Rising sun flag has been still widely used in Japan as an official flag for the Japan Maritime Self Defence Force , the symbol of tradition and good fortune since being adopted as the Imperial Japanese naval ensign in the late 19th century .

German government clearly expressed their apology for the past, and did their best not to make the history repeat.

On the other hand, Japan, never admits their guilt, never hasn't apologized like German did, not even close.

#Japanese Rising sun flag = War-crime flag

The so-called 'Rising sun flag' (a red circle with 16 rays) reminds its victims of Japan's wartime atrocities and colonialism.

It was adopted as the war flag of the Imperial Japanese army in 1870 and in 1889, also adopted as the naval ensign of the Imperial Japanese Navy.

Imperial Japan waged a series of wars and military conflicts , including the Sino-Japanese war, the Russo-Japanese war, the World War I, and the World War II etc, and this Rising sun flag accompanied the Japanese troops.

They massacred countless innocent people including women and children during the war, and celebrated their victories with this flag.

During the war-time, Korean men were conscripted by the Imperial Japan and sent to the front as soldiers or forced to do hard labor and tens of thousands of young Korean girls were drafted as a sex slave.

#Please don't use or buy the goods with this symbol

They are still in use despite strong protests from neighboring countries like Korea, China, Vietnam, Thailand etc.

They raise and wave it at international sports events to cheer the Japanese team, even at the political speeches .

Also the design of the Rising sun flag appears on a lot of commercial products such as on the beer can, t-shirts, shoes etc.

Especially, a lof of foreigner tourists who travels in Japan purchase the souvenirs the Rising sun flag marked .

I think they buy and use it due to their ignorance of the history ,

( I can't blame them if they do the things without knowledge, so this is one of the reasons I'm writing this , to let the people know the fact even if it's only for a very slightly more than now. )

But just think a second.

If you are Jewish,  will you be okay that German just starts flying the Hakenkruez Nazi flag during the World cup game ?

If you are black, will you be fine with the Confederate flag flying behind the US president when he makes a speech?

#They are still so shameless.

Next week, an international naval fleet review will be held in Jeju island, South Korea.

And Japan is one of the participating countries.

Last week, the South Korean requested all participating ships to raise their own national flag, NOT military flags.

But the Japanese Defence Ministry said, "Under the Japanese law, it's mandatory for warships to raise their own military flag.".

We Koreans, and many more Asians like Chinese, Vietnames etc who suffered from the artrocities of Japanese Imperial associate the Rising sun flag with a terrible pain and ignominy.

Many Korean are making online petitions asking the president to stop the Japanese from entering to the South Korean territory if they come with the Rising sun flag raised.

But.. the Japanese goverment rejected the Korean request insisting that it's a matter of sovereignty as usual, and stick with the decision to raise the flag.

Yes, a nation have the sovereignty to use their flag, but when it comes to say the military symbol, which was used during the massacre, things are clearly different.

Coming with the war-crime flag to the nation, the most suffered victim of their tyranny? How rude, shameless they are .

They don't show the slightest of remorse for the past.

It can't be happened to let them visit our territory for the international event with the war-crime flag .

This is why Koreans get mad at the Japanese Rising sun flag.

Japan must stop using it .
